You only live once

I always hear the phrase “you only live once” used as a justification for doing something risky or unhealthy.

Shouldn’t it be the other way around? If one only lives once, shouldn’t one take actions to preserve that one lifetime for as long as possible?

    Its hard for people to see that what they do today will effect them tomorrow. However, there are some risks that I believe if you don’t take then you’re missing so much in life. Like the opportunity to tell someone you care even if they may not respond the way you’d hope.
